On dénombre plus de 370 millions de personnes indigènes dans le monde, qui parlent plus de 4 000 langues différentes et vivent dans plus de 70 pays. Les peuples indigènes ont résisté au temps, à la colonisation, aux génocides, aux épidémies et aux guerres et actuellement ils émergent à nouveau en faisant entendre leurs voix. Dans ce combat pour survivre et être reconnus, les peuples indigènes utilisent Internet pour rentrer en contact avec d’autres citoyens dans leur pays et dans le reste du monde.
Global Voices Online plaide activement, et dans le monde entier, pour le droit à l'expression des peuples indigènes dans les médias citoyens en ligne. Voir par exemple notre dossier spécial Focus sur les forêts : l'Amazone .
